Sherry is one drop of many rosy cheeks on Christmas morning, While we are still yawning, Feeling happily heavy as our eyes widen To the twinkle of tradition hiding Just inside our stockings, waiting for joy And all those new toys. Our emerald tree stands shimmering As the brandy sauce is simmering And the fairies dance to carols and laughter, And perhaps the cracker whistles after As the Christmas dinner encore sounds With a fluid crispness of many wine rounds. The charades and games are on their way, With grandparents and all here to stay. Lost instructions are an opportunity to change the rules And play how we always wanted to. Tiring at the end of the night, Silent and smiling in soft pyjamas, snug tight. Thank you for a very Merry Christmas, Loving those who, during the year, have missed us. Cards and cake and luxury for a day, With ham, and beef, and plenty of turkey, Cheese on crackers that smacker the lips, kisses For everyone to remember what a wonderful life this is. So many references to a Christmas I know. Beautifully expressed. I like the cracker smackers and the 'whistles' - such strong picture drawing. Love it.
